To make one 200g candle, we need the following materials:
- Wax: 200 grams (soy wax or similar crafting wax)
- Wick: 1 piece (about 12 cm length)
- Heat-safe container: 1 (glass jar or metal cup, 200–250 ml size)
- Fragrance oil: 6–10 ml (optional, depending on strength preference)
- Color dye: 1–3 drops (oil-based dye for wax)
- Double heating setup: 1 large pan + 1 small heat-safe bowl
- Thermometer: 1 (recommended for accuracy)
- Stirring stick: 1 clean stick or spoon
- Wick holder: 1 pencil or chopstick
- Tape or glue dot: small piece for fixing wick
- These simple tools help us control the process and make the candle more stable and safe.
Step 1: Preparing The Workspace
We start by preparing a clean and safe workspace. We cover the table with paper or cloth to protect it from wax drops. We also keep a bowl of warm soapy water nearby for quick cleaning.
Then we set up the double heating system. We fill a large pan with water (about 60% full) and place a smaller heat-safe bowl on top. This indirect heat helps us melt wax safely without burning it.
Step 2: Measuring And Preparing The Wax
We measure exactly 200 grams of wax using a kitchen scale. Then we cut or break the wax into small pieces. Smaller pieces melt faster and more evenly, which helps us control the process better.
We place all the wax pieces into the small bowl, ready for melting.
Step 3: Melting The Wax Slowly
We heat the water in the large container over medium heat. As the water gets hot, the wax in the bowl will slowly begin to melt.

Step 4: Adding Color And Fragrance

- 6–10 ml of fragrance oil (if we want scent)
We stir slowly for about 30–60 seconds until everything is fully mixed. This step helps the candle become even in color and smell.
We can adjust color or scent slightly, but we should always add small amounts first.
Step 5: Preparing The Wick And Container
We take our container and place the wick in the center. We use a small piece of tape or glue dot to fix the bottom of the wick.
Then we place a pencil or chopstick across the top of the container and wrap the wick around it. This keeps the wick straight and centered while pouring wax.
A centered wick helps the candle burn evenly later.
Step 6: Pouring The Wax Carefully
We slowly pour the melted wax into the container. We should pour gently to avoid air bubbles and to keep the wick in place.
We leave about 1 cm of space at the top of the container. This helps prevent overflow and gives the candle a clean finish.
If the wick moves, we adjust it immediately before the wax starts to set.
Step 7: Cooling And Setting
We let the candle cool at room temperature without moving it. Cooling time depends on wax type:
- Soy wax: about 4–6 hours
- Other wax types: up to 24 hours
During cooling, the surface may sink slightly in the center. This is normal. If needed, we can pour a small extra layer of melted wax to smooth the top.
Step 8: Final Touch And Trimming
Once the candle is fully solid, we remove the wick holder and trim the wick to about 5 mm length.
Now the candle is ready to use. We can light it, enjoy its soft glow, or place it as decoration in our home.
