The minivan will drop you at the ticket office in Shangrilla town (also known as Aden or Xianggelilazhen), from where a scenic bus ride leads to the reserve entrance.

Walking Trails


Dear Lykkers, the reserve features marked trails that guide visitors to scenic spots. Walking is highly recommended to fully enjoy the views. For those short on time, electric carts are available between the entrance and Luorong Pasture.


Popular Trails and Distances


Entrance (3800m) to Chonggu Meadow (3900m): 15–20 minutes.


Chonggu Meadow to Pearl Lake (4100m): 45 minutes to 1 hour uphill.


Chonggu Meadow to Luorong Pasture (4180m): 6 km, 2–3 hours.


Luorong Pasture to Milk Lake (4600m): 2–2.5 hours uphill.


Milk Lake to Five Colour Lake (4700m): 30–45 minutes steep uphill.


Horseback Riding


Horses are available from Luorong Pasture to Milk Lake, but steep sections may require walking.

In Shangrilla Town


Shangrilla town offers several guesthouses and a YHA hostel with dorm beds for 25 yuan. The hostel provides storage facilities for overnight stays in Yading village.


In Yading Village


Yading village, 3 km from the park entrance, has basic guesthouses. Prices start at 120 yuan for a twin room with mattress heaters. Bathrooms are shared with squat toilets and hot showers.
