According to CNN (CNN), 13 reported that the average score of this year's U.S. high school graduates in the College Entrance Test (ACT) fell to the lowest level in 30 years, with more than 40% of candidates failing all test subjects.

The average ACT composite score for the class of 2022 was 19.8 (out of 36), the first time since 1991 that the score was below 20.

More importantly, a growing number of high school students are failing to meet the passing line set by the ACT in any subject, indicating a decline in their readiness for college courses.

According to the ACT report, 42 percent of the Class of 2022 who took the ACT did not meet the passing line in any of the English, reading, science, and math subjects. By comparison, 38 percent of test takers in 2021 failed to meet the passing line in all subjects.

CNN reported in September that math and reading scores for 9-year-olds in the U.S. also plummeted between 2020 and 2022. Down to levels not seen in decades.
