This summer, we embarked on an unforgettable journey through the stunning mountain landscapes of Colorado. With its towering peaks, lush valleys, and vibrant wildflowers, Colorado is a nature lover’s paradise.
Join us as we share our adventures, highlight key attractions, and provide some practical tips for anyone planning to explore this breathtaking region.
Our adventure began in the enchanting Rocky Mountain National Park, where the alpine scenery instantly captivated us. We set out early to catch the sunrise at Bear Lake, and the soft light illuminating the surrounding peaks was nothing short of magical. The lake is accessible year-round and is a fantastic spot for a peaceful morning hike. There’s no entrance fee for pedestrians, but vehicle access costs $30 per car for a week.
From Bear Lake, we hiked the popular Emerald Lake Trail, a moderate 3.5-mile round trip that rewards hikers with stunning views of three beautiful lakes. The trail is open from dawn to dusk, and we encountered families, solo hikers, and even a few enthusiastic photographers all enjoying the picturesque scenery. Don’t forget to pack a picnic to enjoy by the lakeside!
No trip to Colorado would be complete without some exhilarating outdoor activities. We spent an afternoon at the iconic Estes Park, known as the “Gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.” Here, we rented bikes and rode along the scenic Lake Estes Trail, a flat, 3.75-mile loop that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Rentals are available at various shops in town, typically around $20 for a few hours.
For those looking for a more adrenaline-pumping experience, white-water rafting on the Cache la Poudre River is a must! We joined a guided tour with a local company, which provided all the gear and instructions. Prices vary but expect to pay around $75–$100 per person for a half-day trip. The thrill of navigating the rapids while surrounded by stunning canyon views was an unforgettable highlight of our trip.
After some adventure, we hit the road to explore the famous Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved roads in North America. Open from late May to mid-October, this scenic drive offers access to breathtaking overlooks, with some areas reaching an elevation of over 12,000 feet. There’s no extra fee beyond the national park entrance, and it’s well worth the trip for the panoramic views and the chance to spot wildlife like elk and marmots.
As we made our way back to civilization, we couldn’t resist stopping in the charming town of Breckenridge. The vibrant Main Street is lined with shops and eateries, making it the perfect place to unwind. We indulged in some local craft drinks at the Breckenridge Brewery, where you can enjoy a tasting flight for about $10. For a sweet treat, don’t miss out on the homemade fudge from the local candy shop!
