As we arrived at Calcetera Windmill, we were immediately struck by its charming, well-preserved appearance. Dating back to the 18th century, this windmill once played a crucial role in grinding wheat for the local community. Walking through its doors, we were transported back in time. The windmill’s restoration has maintained its authentic feel, allowing visitors to explore the grinding mechanism and learn about its historical significance.


The windmill’s interior is a fascinating museum in itself, showcasing various tools and artifacts from the era. We were particularly impressed by the detailed exhibits explaining how the windmill harnessed wind power to produce flour. The knowledgeable staff on hand were eager to answer our questions, enriching our understanding of this fascinating piece of history.


Opening Hours and Ticket Prices


Our visit to Calcetera Windmill was made even smoother by the well-organized schedule. The windmill is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It's worth noting that the site is closed on Mondays, so planning our visit accordingly was essential.


Tickets are reasonably priced, with adult admission costing €6 and reduced rates of €4 for seniors and children aged 6-12. Children under 6 can enter for free. We found this to be a great value for the immersive experience provided.

After our enriching tour, we were eager to find a comfortable place to unwind. Just a short drive away, we discovered the charming Hotel El Molino Viejo. This cozy hotel offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern amenities. With rooms starting at €85 per night, including breakfast, it provided a delightful retreat with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.


The hotel’s restaurant, featuring local cuisine, was a highlight of our stay. We enjoyed a delicious meal of traditional Spanish dishes while soaking in the serene atmosphere. The staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home.


Savoring Local Flavors


No visit to this region would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. We ventured into the nearby town, where we found a quaint restaurant called Taberna El Molino. Here, we indulged in regional specialties such as "paella Valenciana" and "tapas." The paella, rich with seafood and saffron, cost around €15, while the tapas variety platter was a delightful bargain at €12.


For dessert, we couldn’t resist trying the homemade "churros con chocolate," a sweet treat that was as delicious as it was satisfying, priced at just €5.
