CBD stands for cannabinoid, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the plant cannabis.

Marijuana contains two main cannabinoids: THC and CBD. THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid, which is known to have negative effects on marijuana. Because CBD is not psychoactive, some people say that CBD can provide medical benefits without side effects.

The potential medical benefits of CBD are related to the cannabinoid system (ECS) in our bodies. ECS consists of endogenous cannabinoids, cannabinoid receptors and enzymes responsible for the synthesis of cannabinoids.

ECS is responsible for many biological processes, so scientists believe it is valuable to further study cannabinoids (such as CBD).

There are two main types of CBD receptors in the human body, which are CB1 and CB2. CB1 exists in the central nervous system, while CB2 exists in the peripheral system (such as intestinal and skeletal systems).

Due to the existence of a large number of CBD receptors in vivo, many studies have been carried out on the role of CBD.

For example, the development of CBD essential oil, CBD essential oil has been confirmed by current research can be used to treat some childhood epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease in the elderly, while other medical uses are mostly based on animal or cell culture research.

But this does not mean that CBD can not treat other diseases, it just means that there are few opportunities for further research.

Many people believe that CBD can also be used to treat migraines, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, nausea, menstrual pain, insomnia, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, post-traumatic stress syndrome and even cancer.

Medical trials in recent years have not confirmed the efficacy of CBD oil in the treatment of these types of diseases. The general rule of thumb is: if it suits you, use it. In other words, if you are facing a serious illness, you do not need to be too obsessed with the so-called medical evidence and can balance your expectations and treatment options accordingly.

The most common way to use CBD is by mouth, which means swallowing capsules or eating CBD with edible properties. After swallowing CBD, it is absorbed into the digestive system and processed by the liver and other digestive organs.

Only part of the CBD enters the bloodstream through these organs before it can be used by the endogenous cannabinoid system.

Through a large number of studies, the bioavailability of oral CBD is usually between 10% and 20%, and some studies have even found that it is as low as 6%. No matter which study is more accurate, the bioavailability of oral CBD is extremely low.

At present, the most popular method is through direct skin contact, there are many CBD masks, lotions, essential oils and other external products on the market, these products are designed to relieve symptoms, including pain and skin problems.

This method is feasible, scientists point out that they have also found cannabinoid receptors in the skin, and the more water-soluble CBD makes CBD more easily absorbed by the skin. As a result, CBD can enter the bloodstream through patches placed on the skin.
